They tear or fail in cold weather. Your life is worth more than a few saved dollars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A \u2014 Airway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If a person is unconscious, their tongue can relax and block the airway.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Must-have:<\/strong> A Nasopharyngeal Airway (NPA) with lubricant. It keeps the airway open for breathing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>R \u2014 Respiration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A chest wound can lead to a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) when air puts pressure on the lungs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Must-have:<\/strong> Occlusive Dressing (Chest Seal). Preferably vented, and always in a pack of two (for entry and exit wounds).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>C \u2014 Circulation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here we stop non-massive bleeding and check for shock.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Must-have:<\/strong>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Hemostatic Gauze<\/strong> (Combat Gauze, QuikClot) \u2014 gauze impregnated with a blood-clotting agent. Used for packing junctional wounds (neck, armpits, groin) where a tourniquet cannot be applied.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pressure Bandage<\/strong> (Israeli Bandage) \u2014 for securing wound packing or closing wounds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>H \u2014 Hypothermia \/ Head Injury<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A wounded person loses body heat rapidly due to blood loss, even in summer. Hypothermia is deadly because it prevents blood from clotting.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Must-have:<\/strong> Thermal Blanket (Survival Blanket).
