But how does a civilian with no experience get specifically into aerial reconnaissance or a strike unit? If you simply walk into a Recruitment Center (TCC) and say, “I want to fly drones,” you will most likely be sent where there is the greatest shortage of personnel\u2014regular infantry.<\/p>\n

To become a UAV operator<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, you need to be proactive. Here is a simple and effective guide from HTEC “MIST” on how a civilian can guarantee their place behind the drone controller.<\/p>\n

Step 1. Understand the Golden Rule of the Military (What is an MOS?)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The military does not take your word for it. To the system, your skills are only valid when they are documented. This profession is called an MOS (Military Occupational Specialty)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

An MOS is a digital code in your military ID. If it says “UAV Operator,” the Recruitment Center is obliged to treat you specifically as a drone specialist. Without an official MOS, you are a “blank slate” who will be assigned to any available position.<\/p>\n
