Drone Operator Training 2026: FPV, Bombers & Military Specialty

Just a few years ago, Ukrainians were googling “where to buy a drone for wedding filming.” Today, the top search queries in Ukraine have changed dramatically. Instead of entertainment, people are searching for “UAV operator courses,” “how to assemble an FPV drone at home,” and studying the tactics of “bomber drones.”

Reality dictates new skills. The ability to pilot a drone is becoming as basic a necessity for defending the country as tactical medicine skills. We analyze the main trends in the UAV world and explain how to acquire these skills at the “MIST” Training Center.

Not Just “Flying”: Why is Everyone Searching for FPV?

The query “FPV drone training” is breaking all records. FPV (First Person View) isn’t about the stabilized image you get with a Mavic. It’s about speed, reaction, and total control.

On the front lines, FPV drones perform two key roles:

  • Kamikaze: High-precision strikes on equipment.
  • Reusable Bombers: Delivering “gifts” to the enemy.

In our courses, we explain that FPV is difficult, but accessible to anyone willing to train on simulators. The flight simulator is the first step you can take even at home before heading to the training ground.

The “People’s Drone” and Engineering Training

The trend for 2025–2026 is a demand for engineering skills. Ukrainians are massively interested in “how to assemble a drone with your own hands.”

Understanding the structure of the “bird” is important not only for assemblers in the rear but also for pilots on the front line. Being able to replace a motor, re-solder a video transmitter, or adjust frequencies in Betaflight is a basic skill that saves lives and equipment. A professional operator is always part engineer.

Bomber Drones and Night Operations

While daytime scouts used to be the “eyes” of the army, the demand for operators of night bombers (often called “heavy drones” or “Baba Yaga” in enemy reports) is growing.

Piloting a heavy multirotor with a drop system requires different skills:

  • Working with a thermal camera (e.g., Mavic 3T).
  • Accounting for the inertia of a heavy aircraft.
  • Tactics of covert approach.

These are specific skills that cannot be learned from YouTube videos—you need practice with an instructor.

Military Occupational Specialty (MOS): Arrive Prepared

Many sign up for training to get a certificate and a guarantee of being assigned to a specific unit. The search query “military occupational specialty drone operator” indicates a conscious approach to mobilization.

By arriving at the army with a diploma from a certified center and real flight hours, you:

  1. Have the right to claim the appropriate position.
  2. Save time on basic training.
  3. Become a valuable asset to your commander.
