How to Become a Military Drone Operator from Scratch: Guide | HTEC MIST

Drones have become the primary weapon of modern warfare. Many people today think: “If I get mobilized, I want to be a UAV operator.” It is a logical desire: the pilot’s profession is prestigious, it saves infantry lives, and it often allows you to work at a certain distance from the line of contact.

But how does a civilian with no experience get specifically into aerial reconnaissance or a strike unit? If you simply walk into a Recruitment Center (TCC) and say, “I want to fly drones,” you will most likely be sent where there is the greatest shortage of personnel—regular infantry.

To become a UAV operator, you need to be proactive. Here is a simple and effective guide from HTEC “MIST” on how a civilian can guarantee their place behind the drone controller.

UAV operator training

Step 1. Understand the Golden Rule of the Military (What is an MOS?)

The military does not take your word for it. To the system, your skills are only valid when they are documented. This profession is called an MOS (Military Occupational Specialty).

An MOS is a digital code in your military ID. If it says “UAV Operator,” the Recruitment Center is obliged to treat you specifically as a drone specialist. Without an official MOS, you are a “blank slate” who will be assigned to any available position.

Crucial Point: The military does NOT recognize certificates from random “internet schools” or two-day courses. To get an MOS, you must graduate from an institution that holds an official state license from the Ministry of Education.

Step 2. Get the Right Training

To avoid wasting time and money, choose licensed centers. At the High-Tech Educational Center “MIST” (which holds State License No. 124), we have developed the “PEGASUS ARMS 25” course, which is perfectly suited for beginners.

What to expect:

  • No Fluff: The training lasts 21 days (96 hours).
  • From Basics to Mastery: You will learn how the drone is built, how to repair it in the field, and how to fly it when the enemy is trying to jam it with Electronic Warfare (EW).
  • Heavy Practice: Half of the course is real flying. You will even learn to fly at night using thermal imaging (10 hours of night practice), making you an elite specialist.
  • Serious Hardware: You won’t be learning on small civilian wedding drones, but on a real, powerful heavy strike multirotor—the Pegasus Arms 25.

Step 3. Obtain the Official Document

After completing the course and passing the exam, you receive a State-Recognized Certificate. This is no longer just a piece of paper—it is your ironclad argument for the military. With this document, you officially become a qualified Unmanned Aerial Systems Operator.

Step 4. Find Your Unit (The Letter of Request)

With our certificate in hand, you don’t wait for a draft notice; you take the initiative:

  1. You reach out to military units (through platforms like Lobby X or direct contacts) and state: “I am a certified heavy drone operator with confirmed qualifications.”
  2. Commanders gladly take in such specialists and issue you a “Vidnoshennya” (an official Letter of Request/Consent to join their specific unit).
  3. With this Letter of Request and your certificate from HTEC “MIST”, you go to the Recruitment Center. There, they officially assign you the drone operator MOS and send you exactly where you wanted to go.

Don’t Wait — Act Now!

Time is your most valuable resource. Learning the profession of an operator requires several weeks of focused work. If you only start acting when the draft notice is already in your hands, there will be no time left for training.

Come learn today, so you can be confident in your role on the front line tomorrow.
